Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) are traumatic events. They are associated with many bodily injuries. Back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, and whiplash are common.
The sudden trauma is capable of injuring many structures in the body. The joints, ligaments, tendons, discs, and bones are commonly affected. As a result, inflammation develops. This leads to pain that lasts for weeks, months and sometimes years when not treated appropriately.
A common problem we see with MVA injuries is that people don’t seek treatment soon enough. Often times the person doesn’t feel ‘too hurt’, at first. Sometimes the pain improves slightly, then worsens a few weeks later. In these situations, our patients always wish that they had taken the time to start treatment sooner.
At Garneau Chiropractic Health Clinic we know that every MVA is different. These injuries can drastically impact your life. Our team of chiropractors and massage therapists help guide you through the best treatment strategies to help you recover as quickly as possible. This way you can put this incident behind you, and get back to your life.
Common injuries associated with MVAs include:
- Neck strain/strain
- Back/ low back strain
- Shoulder pain
- Knee Pain
- Disc Injury
- Disc Herniation
- Wrist Injury
Sometimes people do not get treatment after they have been in an MVA. One reason may be that they believe they can’t afford treatment. However, in Alberta, if you are involved in an MVA, you are entitled to a minimum of 10 chiropractic treatments for all minor injuries. This is covered under the Alberta Diagnostic Treatment Protocols Regulation.
